Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
Salt 'n Pepper People!
You're the new US Census-Taker on the block...You check off the list for gender, race, marital status, toilets, TVs--and all the rest. You've heard the grins and groans over the census this year and I'm not going there. Where I AM going is to the check-list for Christians--the "salt of the earth" and the "pepper of the planet" who dwell among us and ARE us, whether we like it or not!
Think of "savory, tasty, pleasant" salt, and you've got a list of favorite people who bless your life, who add good flavoring of God's love to wherever He places them. The solid, reliable, dedicated wonderful Christian brothers and sisters we all know...God bless them!
Then there's the "pepper" kind...the smarting, stubborn, strong-willed--just plain DIFFICULT people you know who bless your life by driving you deeper into God's Word, His patience, and His grace. We all know a few--they may be dear family or even Christian friends; they may be strangers we deal with in the marketplace. But they are difficult--a little pepper goes a long way, but too much can send you into coughing, choking, tearful tests of endurance and exhaustion! Know people like that? Are YOU like that? Heaven forbid--God help us all to be the salt of the earth...adding a "little" spice won't hurt, but let's watch how we pour it on!
Someone in YOUR life today who's pouring on the pepper? Ask God for His grace and wisdom to deal with the difficult people He sends across your pathway. Most likely, they are deeply hurting, from past and present circumstances--only God knows. Place them in HIS hands, ask for His grace--and be HIS salt in their lives. Be a spiritual chef today--specialize in salting someone's life--go easy on the pepper, PLEASE--and have a great day!
Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word
"Ye are the salt of the earth...(Matthew 5:13)."
Draw from the Well--a prayer for renewing strength for this day
"Lord, thank You for the "salty" people in my life who continually bless and encourage me; who are so much like You in who they are and what they do. And--thank You for the "pepper" people you send across my pathway. They're not much fun but Lord, they do drive me closer to You. Bless them, heal their hurts--and help me somehow to be a little bit of YOUR salt in their lives this day. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
