Seems like every time we turn around, we're celebrating some kind of national recognition day, week or month-- National Grouch Day, National Dog Week, National Cookie Month, etc., etc.! Hallmark must love it...grin...but this week, so I've heard, is National Home Education Week and having just flown one bird out of our home nest, with one "in the wings," I'm aware of the importance of Christian education in the home--while they're around, and so...
While that other little bird (who thinks he is "Big Bird") is still around, I need to focus on teaching him what's in the "Good Book" from which his big brother learned...it's not math, science, English, chemistry--and yet it IS...for have you read your Bible lately? How Jesus multiplied the loaves and the fishes, how the Israelites miraculously crossed the Red Sea, how David wrote inspirational poetry that inspires us today, how the Lord turned the water into wine--on and on--it's all there!
For you see, great as the educational books in our home library, and great as the homeschooling parents are who rigorously teach them to their kids, there's another Book that's all-important, that supercedes any school book you or your kids have ever opened. It's the foundation of all Christian education in the home. This Book, God's Word, teaches us about God's laws, Christian living, Christian relationships, Christian principles--and most of all, how to know the Author of the Book in a personal way.
We never finish reading this Book--all our lives we learn from it, and we learn to live from it, the best Book in the world! We teach and train our kids, we acknowledge and appropriate it ourselves--we make it our basic manual for life. Commit yourself anew to read it, love it, live it--and have a wonderful day in YOUR "homeschool" today--wherever in the world your school bell rings!

"But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them, and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:14,15)."
