It's Labor Day Weekend USA, and if you are traveling along with 33 million others, unless you're in the air or on the sea, you're bound to bump into those wonderful caution signs, "Men Working/Construction Ahead." So you slow down to a snail pace, steer through a maze of orange mini-pryamids--and almost think a camel-ride through Egypt would be quicker!

While holidays are usually a time to take off work, some unfortunate people are still on the clock, watching it until quitting time--cause it's picnic time in the USA! A last-ditch effort to enjoy summer before buckling down to fall responsibilities. But what about God? Does HE take "Labor Day" off? Thank goodness, no--He's at work everywhere--every day! Find your way through the maze of construction signs, bring along your picnic basket--let's head for the well and watch God at work!

A Helping Word...or Two!

God is at Work IN me!

Work Project Number One! The God who created Adam and Eve on Day Six of His Creation didn't plan to leave us to our own developmental plan. Oh, sure, we learn to do all the "stuff" in the baby books we're supposed to do. It's a long process parents love to watch! But there's a heavenly Parent who's watching--and wants to work in us too--more than any earthly parent could ever do! He wants to mold and shape us into His image; sometimes it hurts when Heaven's Workman really gets down to the job of re-making us--but it's worth it--and HIS plan is perfect!

May I never thwart that plan--but know it is "God who worketh IN me both to will and to do of His good pleasure." His plan and purpose for my life is higher and deeper than anything I could dream. For He's got my highest interests at heart--and I've got a choice. I can cooperate; I can rebel. I can choose to let Him work IN me--or try to do it myself! I say, "Lord, work in me--You're the best Workman I know!

God is at Work FOR me!

Work Project Number Two! The God who did marvelous miracles for Abraham, Isaac and Jacob--the God of Elijah, Moses, David, the disciples, the Early Church--is at work in my life to plan, order and arrange whatever He must do to make that Master Plan work. He knows, before birth, His purpose for my life. He works with purpose to bring that perfect plan to pass.

May I never thwart HIS plan--but know it is God at work FOR me! And "if God be for me, who can be against me!" He can move mountains, calm stormy seas, open jail house doors--and He can do whatever it takes to place me where He wants me to be, to do what HE wants me to do. He's always got my highest interests at heart--and I've got a choice. I can cooperate; I can rebel. I can choose to let Him work FOR me--or try to do it myself! I say, "Lord, work for me--You're the best Workman I know!

God is at Work THROUGH me!

Work Project Number Three! The God who used Bible people of old--whether it was the shepherds in the fields, the little boy with his lunch, the woman at the well--men, women and children alike--that same God calls us as REAL people to do REAL work for Him too. In our own strength and abilities, we will fail--in HIS strength and abilities, we shall succeed and bring honor and glory to His Name.

May I never thwart the work He wants to do through me. May I always be available, accessible and accountable to the Master Workman for whatever job He calls me to do. Big or small, may I be faithful--and acknowledge Him as the source of whatever He does through my life. He wants to pour His love and life through me to a waiting, needy, thirsty world. And I've got a choice--I can cooperate; I can rebel. I can try to do it myself--or I can choose to let Him work THROUGH me. I say, "Lord, work through me--You're the best Workman I know!"

God's at work!--watch out, world! We may not be perfect--but we're under construction--He's not finished with any of us yet! Our God is working within us, for us, and through us to make us--and our world--what He wants us to be. And by the way, world, be sure to keep watching--for the work project never ceases--until the day He comes or calls us home. You can watch us cooperate, you can watch us rebel--but fasten your eyes on the Workman--He's faithful, He doesn't forget nor forsake--and HE never fails! Someday the caution signs will be removed, the construction job complete--but until that day, Lord, LABOR ON--work in us, for us and through us--and may we too "always abound in the work of the Lord," knowing that our "labor is not in vain in the Lord!"

Happy Labor Day--and may the Labor Day of the Lord in this life never end!
