Doorbells and telephones--they can bring surprises or nightmares. I've had chocolate surprises and bagel surprises arrive at my doorstep--FUN! And then there's the middle-of-the-day salesperson who arrives at the most inopportune time--NOT FUN! I've had exciting phone calls that brought smiles and excrutiating ones that brought tears--and so have you, for life brings these calls to us all.

Has GOD come calling to your house lately? Has He knocked at the door and found a welcome invitation into your home? I hope so--He's not rude and will not knock down the door, nor ring the phone off the hook. His call is soft and tender--it brings forgiveness, salvation, and direction to our lives. He's calling now--let's go to the Well and learn more about the wonderful call of God.

A Helping Word...or Two!

The Call of God...and the Natural Eye

"Eye hath not seen...." and indeed it hasn't! For the call of God to the natural eye often times does not make a lot of sense. We know He's called, but our human vision is distorted, and so often we cannot understand what He is doing. Circumstances do not fall in place, our way becomes crooked, and we believe God is surely mixed up! Well, down deep in our hearts, we do know better, but let's face it--when God does not show us a clear picture of what He is doing, we are disturbed, distressed, and often down-hearted. Look up--turn your eyes upon Jesus, and see Him only. Know He is working for your good. The call will be fulfilled, in His time and purpose for your life. Put your hand in His and know that He sees and plans ahead for you--for when God comes calling, He sees what you cannot see...trust Him; He will not fail.

The Call of God...and the Spiritual Ear!

"...nor hath ear heard..." and indeed it hasn't, unless you're REALLY listening! For the call of God to the spiritual ear is heard above the din of natural noise. It speaks deep within your heart and directs your path. Sometimes you hear His voice by reading His Word, sometimes by listening to a sermon, or a friend's advice--and if you're on the Web, it may even be through an email devotional or an Internet friend. God speaks in various ways, and we must be alert to His call. It will be a gentle tug, a soft prompting, a sweet calling, to urge us to step out, to move on, to stay still, to stand firm--whatever He says, DO it without fear, or when HE calls you to do something hard, HE will be with you to help you do it. Trust Him; He will not fail!

The Call of God...and the Divine Plan!

"...the things which God hath prepared..." and indeed He has, for when our eyes turn upon Jesus, and our ears hear His voice, His divine plan goes into motion. His timing may not be ours--often it is not--but God's clock is always correct. His ways may not be ours--often they are not--but His marvelous plan is far better than any one we could contrive. God works in marvelous ways to fulfil His perfect plan in our lives. Sometimes it is not immediately apparent--it may be years later that we look back and say, "NOW I know why this happened or that DIDN'T happen--it was all in His plan!" Thank God that when HE comes calling, He always has a plan. Remember His Word, "I know the plans I have for you..." Trust Him; He will not fail.

Just this past week, I had opportunity to give testimony to the call of God upon my own life. For years, my natural eye could not envision what He was doing or preparing, but somehow, this imperfect ear was tuned to heaven, and I heard His voice. I obeyed, even when it was hard--and I have seen the beautiful plan of God being worked out in my life, greater and more beautiful than I could have ever planned or imagined. We serve an awesome God, and what He's done for me, He will do for you....so when God comes calling, be swift to answer--it will be the best thing you've ever done in your life.....for you really can TRUST Him...He does not fail!

...and that's just a thought or two--from my heart to yours!

"Lord, we seek Your face and listen for Your call, for we know we can trust our lives in Your hands. May Your divine plan be fulfilled in us this week. In Jesus Name, Amen."
