A Hurting Word...
I am the mother of a teenager. I could relate all sorts of wonderful, amazing things about the advantages and disadvantages of having a teenage son. Suffice it to say that, among other things, I am learning some trendy teen language! One favorite saying is "Mom, make like a penguin, and chill!" The other, the basis for this devotional (thanks, Joey!), is "TRUST me!" Now the unspoken interpretation of that is, obviously, "Look, Mom, I am 14 years old; I have world knowledge; of course, my words are reliable! Just take my word for it!"
Now to trust THAT word from a 14-year-old could be abit risky. But what about adults? Some will look you square in the eye, in broad daylight, or in moonlight, and say, "TRUST me," and then hours, days, years from that statement, come denial, heartbreak, broken promises, broken trust. Know anyone like that? Then I know JUST the Person you must meet today. He's a Friend of mine, and when HE says, "Trust Me," you can rely on it, from now through eternity!
A Helping Word...or Two!
Trust My witness!...Jesus Christ is trustable because of what He's done! God delivered Daniel from the lion's den; Moses from Egypt; Joseph from the pit; Peter from prison--the list is endless. Real people with real problems and a real God! Read about it in His Word. And if you're still not convinced, talk to a senior citizen who has served God for 50 years. You will be blessed by wonderful stories of God's faithfulness. And while you're checkin' out people, check out your OWN past--has God ever failed you? Remember a time when you needed a miracle and said, "If God does this for me, I will NEVER doubt Him again! Well, God did it for you, and here you are doubting AGAIN. How do I know? 'Cause I've been there--I do it all the time! Let's learn from a rich history of God's unfailing promises that we CAN trust Him fully.
Trust My Word! Jesus Christ is trustable because of what He says! He, God's Son, has given us great and precious promises in His Word. His Word is true; it has stood through the ages, and it will stand for you! Believe it! His Word is a love letter to you--to one He loves unconditionally and without reserve. He seeks for your best good, and reveals that good in His Word. And when you fully believe that, and open His Word, it will become Life to you--a personal message from God's heart to yours. Cherish those nuggets of promise He drops in your heart as you read His Word. His Word does not fail!
Trust My Person!...Jesus Christ is trustable, because of Who He is! He is the Son of God; He is Truth personified--I can trust Him. The personal relationship between us binds me to His very heart. I am His--I belong to the Almighty, Omniscient, Omnipotent Son of God. And yet, like doubting Thomas, I doubt--just like you! Would you like your faith in His Person revived? another of my writings, The Indescribable Christ --I challenge you to read it every day this week, and let the Lord use it to encourage your heart. He is indeed the magnificent Son of God, One fully trustworthy in every situation of life.
And what about my son? Did I trust him that day? Now, he's a great son, and I'm proud of him, but I don't trust his every judgment call! Frankly, I don't even recall the conversation-- there are so many just like it! You know, and I know, that a teenager may not always be the trustworthy person he thinks he is! His witness may not always be reliable. His words may not always be backed up by reality. And so it may be for a person or people in your life. But for you, it's no joke, no teenage, "trendy" thing to say. Someone has broken trust with you, and you are devastated. God knows. He sits by the Well with outstretched Hand, and says, "Trust ME, my child. I will not fail you."
And that's just a word...or two, from my heart to yours!

"...Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5,6 KJV)."
"Lord, I don't trust people anymore! I have friends and family that have destroyed the last ounce of trust I possess. For now, I don't even trust You. I'm miserable--cause everyone needs somebody to trust. And I need You--right now. Please restore my faith and trust in You and in Your Word. In the Name of Jesus, the Trustworthy One, Amen."
