A Hurting
Word...
Religion, politics, sex--I've just named three of the most powerful--and personal--words in the English language--and I've got your attention! Thank you--that's exactly what I wanted, for we are moving out of the comfort zone and I want to be sure you are awake! You see, some topics are very personal and not easily discussed in public, that is, if you are a gentleman or a lady! I've chosen one of the three....it's personal and it's easily discussed, that is, if you're a Christian!You see, the faith of our fathers, or of our father and mother, is not enough. It will not save us. It will not see us through the pains or problems of life. It will not sustain us through the breaks and bruises of life. And it will not satisfy our deep longings for love, joy, and peace. Only a personal faith in a personal Savior will do that...and thank God, this little girl not only listened and learned, but she loved....loved the Lord with all her heart and chose Him to be HER personal Lord...now THAT's enough!So come along with me to the Well as if you were the only one He was waiting for....He's there, not just for the world to view, but for you to know...it's very personal, and it's worth your time!
A Prophet's Faith! Daddy was a preacher, and one of my favorite play times was playing church on Sunday afternoon. I would be the pianist and the preacher, my little sister would take the offering, and some adult would patiently play along with the two little preacher's kids. Bible stories were exciting. I learned about Noah and the ark, Daniel in the lions' den, Moses and the Red Sea, and I loved to re-tell the stories with flannelgraph pictures from Sunday School. There was Esther the queen, and Mary the mother of Jesus; Peter walking on the water, Paul and Silas in prison, and many more. Wonderful men and women of God, all with a personal faith...and a little girl listened and learned, but it wasn't enough...
Mother and Dad were Christians, the kind who lived their faith, and taught it to their children. I learned to read by taking my turn in family devotions to read God's Word. I learned to pray by doing it--when I was bad, sad, mad or glad - and you can guess I was all four at one time or another! I learned to honor and obey God, to memorize His Word, to respect His house. But there was one thing my beloved parents could not do for me...they could not choose for me to love the Lord. This little girl listened and learned, but it wasn't enough... A Parent's Faith!
A Personal Faith! I'm a church kid--cut my teeth on the front pew, I'm sure, and I learned, like most of you, that Jesus died on the Cross for the sins of the world. At around age 4, I was sure I was the worst sinner in that world, and at a special moment in time, faith became very personal to this little girl. I received Jesus Christ as my PERSONAL Savior...and it's been a personal faith ever since....personal enough to want to tell the whole world about it....now THAT'S personal!And it's enough for you--whether you are a downhearted Christian, or a down 'n out sinner - we are all sinners saved by grace, in need of a personal Savior...and He waits for us today, not as a group, but one at a time....whatever our need, He's there, our personal Savior and Lord....big enough to create the world, small enough to live in my heart--and yours...now you can't get much more personal than that!
...and that's just a PERSONAL thought or two--from my heart to yours!

"Lord, I've heard about You and learned about You for too long. I want to know You in a personal way. Please be my personal Savior this day. In Jesus Name, Amen."
