An Encouraging Word for Times Like These
"Turn Your Eyes Upon JESUS..."
If you are an evangelical Christian, you've probably sung the chorus a thousand times...now it's time to let it sink deep into our hearts, for, you see,
Should we turn our eyes upon YESTERDAY, we see images burned into our hearts of 9-11, the tragedy we will never forget. We look further behind 9-11, and we see the personal thoughts, dreams, deeds and wishes that cause delight, dismay or disdain for all of us--we can't bring back or change the past!
Should we turn our eyes upon TODAY (and we'd better, for there are jobs to do, homes to clean, work to finish, kids to feed, laundry to do--on and on down the list of chores), we'll get discouraged and depressed before we ever start the day--and that's before we ever even turn ON the TV! Perhaps we should just turn over, pull the covers over our head, forget today and wait for...
TOMORROW...oh, sure, with our world as it appears on the TV Nightly News, who knows when it will DISAPPEAR....life is so uncertain these days, even the future can be filled with dread and fear for what lies ahead...
SO where in the world do we LOOK? We turn our eyes upon Jesus.....He's the One who's been with us in our yesterdays; is with us today, and will be with us in all our tomorrows....He's the One who brings love, joy and peace to our hearts, a spring in our step, a sparkle in our eye....
So how do we do THAT? We give HIM our yesterdays, our todays, our tomorrows - we give HIM our lives--past, present and future--and when we REALLY do that, we'll be REALLY ready to face life, whatever it holds! Place it ALL in His Hands today--"Turn your eyes upon JESUS...and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace!"
...and that's just a faith-filled thought or two from my heart to yours!
