An Encouraging Word for Times Like These
"Grace Enough..."
Heroes...we've seen them on TV News--the firefighters, the police personnel, the volunteer workers--they're exhausted, sometimes frustrated, filled with sorrow as we all are--and yet they keep on keeping on...endlessly, selflessly...and we salute them.
I met another hero this past week on my flight home from Chicago. She was a mom--JUST a mom, you say? NO--she was "Mave's Mom," and that's where my story begins! Mave is 22 years old, born 2 1/2 months premature. She is blind, with cerebral palsy and mental retardation. As I expressed my sadness, Mave's Mom smiled, "Oh, no....don't be sorry...I am BLESSED!"
A hero full of the grace and peace of Our Lord, Mave's mom related the story, her voice filled with pride and love for her lovely daughter. A model--to me--and to you, that there is "grace enough" for us all. I saw a smile of peace, eyes lit with love, a calmness, strength and grace only God could give. I saw the pride--and I saw the peace, God obviously in control. What a mom!
Mave's Mom works hard as a volunteer for disability issues and has created a Web site to help others with like circumstances. Her name was Mary--and she was amazing. NO--it wasn't SHE who was so amazing...it was the GRACE...AMAZING GRACE that only God could give in very difficult circumstances.
When you or I have a bad day, when it all seems just too much, when the events of these crisis days drag us down--or whatever personal crisis you are going through--let's remember: if there's grace enough for Mave's Mom, there's grace enough for me--and for you too!
...and that's just a faith-filled thought or two from my heart to yours!
"Lord, thank You for Your amazing grace - it reaches down to us in the difficulties of life, it touches us with Your love, it brings light to our darkness, and hope to our burdened hearts. It's "grace enough" for Mave's Mom--and for ME. Thank You, and may I appropriate that grace for my need today, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
