THE ATHEIST AND THE BEAR!
An atheist was taking a walk through the woods, admiring all that the
"accident of evolution" had created. "What majestic trees! What powerful
rivers! What beautiful animals!", he said to himself.
As he was walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes
behind him. He turned to look. He saw a afoot grizzly charge towards
him.
He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and
saw that the bear was closing. He ran even faster, so scared that tears
were coming to his eyes. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear
was even closer. His heart was pumping frantically and he tried to run
even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick
himself up but saw the bear; right on top of him; reaching for him with
his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him.
At that instant the Atheist cried out "Oh my God!...."
Time stopped.
The bear froze.
The forest was silent.
Even the river stopped moving.
As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky, "You
deny my existence for all of these years; teach others I don't exist;
and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help
you out of his predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"
The atheist looked directly into the light, and said, "it would be
hypocritical to ask me to be a Christian after all these years, but
perhaps could you make the bear a Christian?"
"Very well," said the voice.
The light went out.
The river ran again.
And the sounds of the forest resumed.
And then the bear dropped his right paw ..... brought both paws
together...bowed his head and spoke: "Lord, for this food which I am
about to receive, I am truly thankful."

THE LORD'S PRAYER IN PERSPECTIVE
I cannot pray "OUR", if my faith has no room for others and their need.
I cannot pray "FATHER", if I do not demonstrate this relationship to God
in my daily living.
I cannot pray "WHO ART IN HEAVEN", if all of my interests and pursuits are
in earthly things.
I cannot pray "HALLOWED BE THY NAME", if I am not striving for God's help
to be holy.
I cannot pray "THY KINGDOM COME", if I am unwilling to accept God's rule
in my life.
I cannot pray "THY WILL BE DONE", if I am unwilling or resentful of having
it in my life.
I cannot pray "IN EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN", unless I am truly ready to
give myself to God's service here and now.
I cannot pray "GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD", without expending honest
effort for it or if I would withhold from my neighbor the bread I receive.
I cannot pray "FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS
AGAINST US", if I continue to harbor a grudge against anyone.
I cannot pray "LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION", if I deliberately choose to
remain in a situation where I am likely to be tempted.
I cannot pray "DELIVER US FROM EVIL", if I am not prepared to fight for
the quality of my life and that of others through watchful prayer.
I cannot pray "THINE IS THE KINGDOM", if I am unwilling to obey the King.
I cannot pray "THINE IS THE POWER AND THE GLORY", if I am seeking power
for myself and my own glory first.
I cannot pray 'FOREVER AND EVER", if I am too anxious about each day's
affairs.
I cannot pray "AMEN", unless I honestly say "Not MY will, but Thy will be
done, so let it be.
