This "worn-out" saint went walkin' this morning--and funny thing--for when I walk, that's when God talks to me...well, Hee walked and talked with Enoch all the time...and that's wonderful, of course, but one day Enoch walked with the Lord and never came back. For right now, I need to come back--to do the laundry, the dishes, the meals, the newsletter, the OTHER newsletter, the web site, the writing assignment....and you have YOUR list too!
WHEW! Sometimes it just gets to be "too much" and we collapse in the nearest Lazy-Boy crying for help. Last night, in utter exhaustion, I listened to one of my favorites, Dr. Jack Hayford, as He spoke on the Spirit of God and His role in a Christian's life...and then, this morning, in disciplined determination, I went walking--and heard the Spirit speak once again.
This time it was in the WIND at my back, puffin' and proddin' this undisciplined dame along her necessary walk. Determined to help myself and ease some of the stress by walking, I discovered this gentle wind helping me along.....physically AND spiritually...and here's the secret I want to share with all God's OTHER worn-out, stressed-out servants.....it's the Secret of the Wind......empowerment by the Holy Spirit in every exercise of our daily lives...
When we SIT...Now how in the world do we need the power of the wind when we SIT? Just "sit" for a while, spiritually, as God places you on "hold" to work within you before He works through you. Sitting gets SORE...it's hard to sit and "wait" for the Lord to act...but it is in that STILLNESS, we can know HIS power working IN us to prepare us for what lies ahead. The secret of sitting still in HIS presence is found in the power of the Wind. Let His Holy Spirit minister peace and rest to your worn-out soul today!
When we STAND...Now how in the world do we need the power of the wind when we STAND? Just "stand" a while fighting back the forces of evil that surround you and attack you--and you will KNOW how much you need the power of the Wind--His Wind--to steady you and KEEP you standing in the face of the enemy. The secret of standing firmly in his face is found in the pwoer of the wind. Let His Holy Spirit pour "standing strength" into your worn-out soul today!
When we WALK...Now it starts to make a little sense--for when we walk, day after day, in routine step after step, our OWN strength gets depleted pretty fast....ask me! But we must not walk in our strength alone. The secret of walking daily with Him is found in the power of the Wind...allowing His Holy Spirit to gently lead us into the disciplines of daily prayer and the Word, of daily living for Him--not in our own strength, which fails...but in the power of the Wind. Let His Wind blow you gently along--and warm you--this week as you walk with Him.
When we RUN...Now if you are over 50 and can't pass a fitness test, this one's not for you...or is it? We may not ever be fast runners as our kids are - or as WE were in the distant past - but we're spiritually running a race, and sometimes the pace slows down a bit as we, in our human nature, wear down and out.....Let the power of the Wind at your back this week give you the "get up and go" spirit you need--to RUN this race for the goal set before us--Jesus Christ and the heavenly finish line!
SO--sit, stand, walk, run--when you're worn out? Sounds crazy...but we can do it--when we know and follow the secret of the Wind...the Holy Spirit who gently empowers us to sit, stand, walk and run--in our daily walk with Christ....But remember, He works in partnership with the Word--and while you're gaining His power through the Spirit, don't forget to back it up with the power of the Word...with the Wind at our back and the Word in our heart, we're gonna make it, worn-out saint....cheer up, weary saints of God--we're NOT alone!
