Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
Bible Buddies!
"OK, everyone find a buddy; hold up your hands when you've got one!" Bring back memories of camp days? If you were in the water or walking in a group, you listened for the whistle and showed up with your buddy. That's how the adults kept you straight--and safe! Can't you still hear that whistle blow? "Buddy time!"
Those days are long gone--and you've probably got a few buddies of your own, chosen, not because a whistle blows, but because you LIKE them and you ARE like them, with alot in common. Buddies in real life are wonderful and a treasure. Make-believe buddies are fun too and your kids--or you--may have had an invisible friend tagging alongside as the best buddy in the whole world. But there's more...
Bet you've never had a BIBLE BUDDY....now what in the world is that? Sounds far-out, but hold on--it could be the BEST buddy you've ever had--not counting the LORD, of course! For you see, God, in His divine wisdom, included stories of men and women in the Bible who look like us, think like us, feel like us and even act like us. We can identify with those kind of people as we seek to live godly lives. Buddies who are BELIEVABLE....that's the kind of buddy I'd like to have!
And I've got one--let me share MY buddy with you! He killed a giant, he played a harp, he wrote a book....Now I can't say I've done the same, BUT he's my buddy. For I read about the times he's been afraid, or down and out, or just plain upset; I see him as an imperfect person who's not afraid to be transparent; who talks to God, who loves God--who's like me in many ways....And when I am upset, or angry, or afraid--or whatever--I find myself gravitating towards my BUDDY David, and growing in my faith and love for God--just like him!
Neat, huh! I dare to say YOU can find a buddy in the Bible too--a hero who's human, a real person like yourself, with whom YOU can identify as you walk with the Lord....and so I'm blowing the whistle--go find yourself a BIBLE BUDDY and have a WONDERFUL day!
Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word
"Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction; for thy word hath given me life (Psalm 119:49,50)."
Draw from the Well--a prayer for renewing strength for this day
"Lord, thank You for providing within Your Word real people with whom I can identify--their highs and lows, their hopes and woes--they're just like ME--and reading about them, learning about them helps ME in my walk with You. You use them to reach out to me in MY need--just like BUDDIES are supposed to do. Thank You, God! In Jesus' Name, Amen."
