Lookin' for the Perfect Body!?!
"Touchy" subject - you touch your cellulite legs, your wrinkled face, your flabby arms, your won't-tuck-in-tummy and all the rest--and you're ready to touch-down at the funny FAT farm--along with the rest of us! Join the aging crowd...Baby Boomers and all! Lookin' for the perfect body is a lifelong search--it can drive you to distraction (and drive the people around you nuts!!) --so what to do? Break the mirrors, ban the beaches, break the cameras, begin the fast??No, stop FRETTING! Forget it--it's not to be found on earth! Even the most "perfect" models will tell you their nose is too big, their eyes too far apart, their toes too crooked--you see, a perfect body is for the birds!! Now believe it--let's not focus on the things that DON'T matter and get beneath that sun-tanned, cream-covered, diet-conscious, hair-colored outer form and down to the REAL person that resides INSIDE all the fuss...
For that's where GOD looks! "Man looketh on the outward appearance; God looks at the heart!" Whether it's your body, my body, or the skinny body you see singing in the choir each Sunday, it doesn't matter to God! He's more concerned with spirit and soul, not the size six we want to be! Let's get real! Sure, diet and exercise ARE important--eat TOO much chocolate and you pay--but Lord, help us take as much concern about our spirits, our minds, our souls, our attitudes--and letting You perfect within us YOUR Word, YOUR Will and YOUR ways!
Would that the BODY OF CHRIST (that includes you and me!) would realize we are NOT perfect--in body, spirit, mind, soul--we are in process; we are becoming like Him--and we have a long way to go. There's no magazine cover to model it for us--HE models it for us, and if in our frustrations to find that "perfect body," we will look beyond the exterior, and work on the interior, we'll find ourselves becoming more and more like Jesus--the PERFECT One. What a goal--losing 15 pounds would be great; being like JESUS would be greater....not perfection in this world, but purposing to think on the things that COUNT...building ourselves up on the things that matter...
Someday we WILL have the "perfect body"--we'll be IN a perfect Body--a glorious one, without SPOT OR WRINKLE (WOW!)--but until then, let's focus on a down-to-earth plan that produces HIS likeness in us - the Fruit of the Spirit, the Meat of His Word--and the indwelling of the PERFECT Son of God...the One who looks beyond our imperfect bodies and all our faults and failures--and sees HIS perfect image being formed in us daily. Believe me, THAT will beat a perfect body--ANY day! Believe it--enjoy a LITTLE chocolate--and have a great day!
