Sleep apnea - we'll all heard of it: the sleeping disorder that supposedly causes a person to stop breathing during the night. In order to see if you "have it," you'll be hooked up to a machine that tests how many times you stop breathing during the night. Seems to be a trendy disorder that suddenly is affecting people all around us! Don't know much about it, but I do know that THEY'RE not "sleeping in heavenly peace!"
Then there's "soul sleep" - we've heard it explained as what we do when we die. Now I, for a minute, don't believe it. My preacher dad proclaimed God's Word which says, "Absent from the body, present with the Lord!" So I would dare to say that THEY'RE not "sleeping in heavenly peace" either!
Then who IS? Is it possible to "sleep in heavenly peace" when you've just gotten a scary doctor report, when you've got bills to meet that you can't pay, when your marriage partner is sleeping somewhere ELSE, when anxiety, worry, fear cause a spiritual sleeping disorder and there's no peace in YOUR neck of the woods?
What to do? Bundle up all your cares, take them to the GOD who cares, who knows all about them anyway--and how to solve them. Let HIM stay awake "worrying" about them - YOU go to sleep...a "heavenly peace" the Lord can give, for "He giveth His beloved sleep."
Believe it--don't fall asleep now if you're working...grin--but let the Lord give you peace tonight, so when you lay your head on the pillow, you will know His rest from the cares of this life and you will indeed "sleep in heavenly peace!"
