Tomorrow is the Fourth of July and for Americans everywhere, it's a time of celebration, so much so that it's easy to forget why we're even AT the party! Picnics, parades, fireworks are fun--it WASN'T fun for the men and women of the Armed Forces who fought and, in many cases, died for the freedom we now enjoy!
In dreadful times of war in the history of our country, the USA, age 18 was not party-time--it was go-to-war time, and a scary time for many American families--who loved their country and loved their sons as well! And so the call that came brought mixed feelings--it was a call to save, to suffer and to serve--and they did it.
In times of Christian warfare, NO age is "party-time"! It is "go-to-war" time, and sometimes very scary. For we fight not against human foes but against the enemy of the Cross, the enemy of God and all things holy and pure, against the very forces of hell. It's a call from the King--and we respond, with gladness and with grace.
Citizens of two worlds, we are a called people...may we be ready at all costs to be His "Armed Forces," armed with His power, His Word and His Love, to save the lost, suffer for the Cross, and serve the Christ, our King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

"Lord, sometimes we forget the cost of freedom and the call to serve, not only our country, but our King. Help us to be ever mindful of the cost of Calvary that bought us freedom. May we hear anew the call to "fight for the right" in the battle of the worlds--may we never be afraid to save, suffer, and serve--for YOU, In Jesus' Name. Amen."
