Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
Just returning from a wonderful San Diego conference, and while I can report that the San Diego warmth is wonderful, I can fairly report that the wine there was "more than wonderful!" Now, before you faint, let me assure you that I am NOT a wine-taster of any kind--EXCEPT the kind I found at the Evangelical Press Association conference in San Diego last week. You see, it was the kind of wine God gives, that to which only a satisfied soul can testify--and I was a satisfied soul!
The heavenly "wine" God gives is tasty, rich, satisfying and spiritually "fattening," somewhat like all the earthly food I ate, which I will, this week, need to walk off! I met wonderful new friends from many Christian ministry publications and organizations, heard singers like Babby Mason and Bryon Duncan, speakers like Dr. David Jeremiah and Philip Yancey...and THAT'S whom I welcome to THIS devotional today!
Philip Yancey, renowned Christian author, talked about lots of interesting things, but as he concluded his morning devotional, he "woke me up," saying, "God can take water and turn it into wine!" Of course, I knew that--but PY went beyond the "mere" facts of the story and brought the wonderful miracle up-to-date as he shared that it is simply "our water" and "HIS wine" that we share with the world.
Represented there were organizations such as Christianity Today, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Gospel for Asia, Luis Palau Evangelistic Association, World Vision, Open Doors with Brother Andrew, Campus Life, Focus on the Family--and many more--all sharing through print and audio, the "water" of words from a human pen--WATER--plain, old water--but GOD takes those simple words and turns them into HIS wine! God takes our talents, whether it be with a well-used pen, a well-worn canvas or a wide-angle lens (great awards were given for all)--and He turns what WE give Him into wine for the world...the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in all its potency and purity...it's awesome...and what's more?
He pours it out of our "cracked vessels" (or "cracked-pots," shall we admit!)--our imperfect, inadequate, impossible bundles of worn-out, wiped-out, whacked-out bodies, brawn and brains! He takes the water and turns it to wine...and the whole world can "taste and see" that the Lord is good! It's awesome...it's humbling...it's HIS work in and through us--and we praise His name!
What are you doing for the Lord this day? Is it hard, overwhelming, seemingly impossible? Let Him take the water of your feeble efforts and turn it into wine for the Kingdom of God...He takes what we give Him--our talents, our abilities, our time--and miracles happen. I'm one of them--and so are you! Now believe it--let HIS wine flow through your "cracked-pot" life--and mine--and we will all have a wonderful day!
