Why do heavy things happen to heaven's people--the ones whose hearts are already there, but whose feet are still firmly planted on planet earth! Why, why, why! I don't know--and I've struggled with this unanswerable question lately, as I tried to make some sense of the "perils in Peru," the tragic death of Roni Bowers, a young missionary wife and her baby, shot while sitting in a plane, on their way to minister the Gospel to the Peruvian people--the land of their calling.

I still don't have an answer...EXCEPT for three words. I heard them this morning on a radio broadcast...I've sung them in a song by the same title. And now, as I write this, in direct contrast--yet NOT in direct contrast, if that makes ANY sense (and sometimes life DOESN'T!)--I am hearing on Christian radio four more words, "God Is in Control." It's a lovely tune, along with a wonderful testimony by a new mom-to-be, contemporary Gospel artist Twila Paris, who at age 42, will become a mom for the first time! A delightful testimony--and yet, in the context of this disaster in Peru, those same words still hold true--"I'm Yours, Lord,"--AND "God Is in Control!"

Twila released her desire to the Lord--and so must we release our disasters to Him too. He must be TRULY Lord--or He is not Lord at all. When we don't know the reason, that's when we have to trust even more. Hard? You better believe it--but it's the only way to survive when the heavy things hit. Whether you're Jim Bowers, the young missionary now left to cope with the loss of his precious wife and baby--or you're Twila Paris, a young "42-year-old" singer who's now facing motherhood for the first time--GOD IS IN CONTROL. That's all we know--and that's enough--when we trust Him fully, when we can say in complete surrender, "I'm Yours, Lord!--YOU are in control!"

Did God cause one of His servants to meet death, while another waits to greet life? No--He's not a cruel God--but He IS God...and we must leave the unanswered questions--and ourselves--in His sovereign hands. He will be there to comfort, love and support both of His servants--whether it's the left-behind husband and child, or the about-to-be, late-in-life mom. He gives grace in sorrow and grace in joy...and although while on this earth, things happen that don't make sense, He can somehow bring good and glory...and He WILL--when we say from our hearts, "I'm Yours, Lord!--YOU are in control!"

Believe it--trust HIM--and you will have a good day!
