Well, we all know about the clothes basket--filled with dirty laundry; the picnic basket--filled with yummy food! Then there's the Christmas basket, filled with goodies for a needy friend; and of course, the offering basket, (hopefully!) filled with gifts to our Lord. These containers hold our dirty clothes, our crispy chicken, our Christmas goodies and our Christian CASH--but certainly not our crying BABIES, right?
Now I'm not talking about the calico-lined, blue-lace-trimmed Martha Stewart basket you just made for your first baby or first grandchild...I'm talking about a handmade bullrushes basket, made not with fine goods and garnishings from Michael's Crafts, but made with loving hands of a young Jewish mother--it was a "lifeboat," as someone has aptly called it, a vessel of providence God would use to protect the sometime-to-be leader of the children of Israel from the evils of the king.
By now, you know I'm referring to Baby Moses, and the story we've heard from Sunday school days. But it's not just a story, placed within God's Word to merely be a bedtime reading to our kids. It's far more--it's evidence of the wonderful, precious providence of God, not just for Moses--but for us too!
You see, many days we FEEL like we're in a basket--or we feel like we ARE the basket, just a basket case of fear, frustration, worry, anxiety, concern--all the emotional responses we have to the cares of life. When you've got a day like that, remember the "baby in a basket," the anointed prophet whose days were planned long before he picked up the rod and it became a serpent, long before he went to the mountain and returned with the Ten Commandments. God's hand was on his life in protection and providence long before--when he was but a "baby in a basket."
And His hand is on you--if you are totally committed to follow His Word and to do His Will. God's got a wonderful plan for your life...and it may not involve turning a rod into a snake (not MY kind of thing, for sure!), nor traipsing two million people across a wilderness for 40 years (and I think walking the development is HARD!)--but whatever it is, He is with you.....HE'S wartching over YOUR BASKET all the way....from birth to the grave. You're not going to drown; you're on your way to the destiny HE has planned for you. Now believe it--and you will have a GREAT day!
