I can still hear the THUMP--as my big 'n tall husband, playing the role of Goliath in a kids' play years ago, deliberately collapsed himself onto the hardwood floor! It was a "David 'n Goliath" moment, for sure--funny to the family who knew it was "rigged" and probably a bit scary to those who did not!
ANOTHER "David 'n Goliath" moment...or two...happened in our little city of Springfield, Missouri, as the SMSU Lady Bears basketball team last year made their winning way up to the FINAL FOUR competition in St. Louis, Missouri. Talk about an excited and proud town--we were in with the "big leagues" and we WON!
Now I'm not a sports fan and barely knew what was going on, but I'm smart enough to watch the scoreboard and know when we're winning--and we did--truly a moment of pride. They continued to do WELL in the tough competition ahead and won the national champtionship--of course, all because I was yelling, GO, LADY BEARS--and GO, JACKIE STILES, born-again Christian star-player of the team! Ever feel like your LIFE is one big "David 'n Goliath" moment? It's all just too big, too much, too hard--and you are too small, too frail, too HUMAN--you just can't do it! Yes, you can--for "I can do all things THROUGH CHRIST who strengthens me!" His Spirit, His power and His Word within our weak vessels make them strong and able to do wonders in the Name of the Lord!
THAT may include "merely" being a mom (sure!)--the laundry, the meals, the taxi service, the house, the job...It may include pastoring a tough church, working in a tough job, living in a tough situation, overcoming a tough problem....whatever your personal "battleground" may be! You're a David with God's Spirit, power and Word within you--now go put on the armor of the Lord, go out and have a dozen "David 'n Goliath" moments today -- God is with you, and HE'S all you need!
