Today's devotional: "The ABC's of Abundance: Turkey and All the Trimmings!?!"
Thanksgiving at Peggie's Place . . . "Don't Let the Grinch Steal Thanksgiving!"
I took my place in the drive-up lane at McDonald's one morning, all set to get one of my favorite breakfasts--a "Number 2: Bacon, egg and cheese bagel--the works!" I placed my order, moved to window number one to pay for my wonderful breakfast...and, with my mind a million miles away, made a mad dash right past pick-up number two, and on down the road, relishing an enjoyable feast when I got home.Much to my dismay, somewhere along the way, I experienced one of those "Methusaleh moments" - "I FORGOT MY BREAKFAST!" I shouted to myself.....turned around, headed back, and with a silly grin to the gal in charge, retrieved my precious packaged breakfast, and raced back home to at last eat my long-awaited breakfast!
Don't laugh...you've done silly things like that too, I KNOW...BUT, you also know, when it happens to ME, that somewhere, tucked in that brown bag, along with the bagel, will be a BOOSTER--for us all! And you're right...
How many times do we, in our busy, dizzy days of life-on-the-go, whiz right by the "window of the Word," - we forget to pick it up! It's there waiting for us--it's our nourishment, refreshment and delight...but we zoom down the road without it, going our own mad, merry way, only to have to zoom back to the place where we left it behind!
Our beloved Lord waits--and watches--patiently for us to return--for He knows how much we need "breakfast-to-go"--manna from His wonderful Word--each morning of our lives! It's been bought and paid for by our Lord Himself! Now don't forget to pick it up--enjoy every morsel, meditate on every truth, digest every word. It's the sustaining, strengthening, satisfying, all-sufficient Word of our Living Lord.
Take His precious Word with you, down the road of your life today. It's a better "breakfast-to-go" than the best bagel in town! Believe it--feed on it--and you will have a wonderful day!
Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word
"...his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto those who wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him (Lamentations 3:23-25).
"How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth...(Psalm 119:103)."
"Lord, we love Your Word; yet, so many times, in the busyness of our days, we leave it behind as we rush off into our "run, people, run" world. We can't afford to go there without You, without Your strength and Word. Help us remember to "stop at window number two" for a bountiful "breakfast on the GO," one we can take with us throughout the day. We need You desperately--and daily. Help us remember that, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
