Daddy was a preacher--and a man of prayer. He loved to awaken early in the morning and sometimes I would find him lying prostrate on the floor in earnest prayer before the Lord--just like the prophets in the Word. When a little grandson came along and reached the ripe old age of two, he was Grandpa's little boy--and whatever Grandpa did, Joey did! So it was no surprise to find him one morning--prostrate on the floor, just like Grandpa--and praying--just like Grandpa, "Ohhhhh, God!"

Now that's a precious memory for a Mom...but can you imagine the precious memories being made this weekend, on Inauguration Day 2001, as a mom and dad proudly watch their son take the oath of office, as they bow in prayer, along with millions of Americans, to pray, deep within their hearts--and ours, "Ohhhh, God...bless and help our new President!"

And that's what this devo is all about...an earnest "Ohhhh, God!" prayer for President George W. Bush on his inaugural weekend. After he was officially declared President-elect, his first activity the next morning was to attend a prayer service in his home church. I quote, with permission, the prayer offered that day--and ask that each of us pray it once again, from our hearts, for the man we will proudly call our President.

Prayer of Intercession

"Almighty God, by whose mercy we have come to the gateway of a new era for our country. Grant that we may enter it with humble and grateful hearts; and confirm our resolution to walk more closely in Your perfect will and labor more faithfully in Your service. Forgive our shortcomings and our sins; purify our hearts to see and love the truth; give wisdom to our leaders, especially President-elect George W. Bush and Vice President-elect Dick Cheney; and give steadfastness to our people. In the the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness and in the day of adversity, do not let our trust in You fail. Guide us as we seek to do Your will. Amen."

And now--congratulations and best wishes from Peggie's Place and all its many visitors--to our new President and Vice-President. May God bless you--and may God bless America!
