Ever take your little kids to a big department store and catch them acting out the title of this devotional? Much to your embarrassment, you call a halt to the fun proceedings and properly reprimand them--"NO! You don't go up a down escalator!!" Now we all know that kids like to do the opposite of what we tell them to do--so hang on, grown-up kids, we're going UP on a DOWN escalator!You see, Christmas is over, the gifts opened, the fudge devoured, the fat accumulating, the bills mounting, the family disconnecting--and you are DOWNRIGHT blue! The escalator that went up, up, up in the anticipation of Christmas no longer appeals--you get off and head for the escalator going DOWN, cause that's where you're headed--into the after-slump depression of the holiday blues. You're not there YET? Well, bookmark this page and come back in January--when psychologists predict it REALLY hits!
So you're a Christian? It's not supposed to happen to YOU? Get real--we are human, and the human condition applies to us ALL. The GOOD part of it? We've got a heavenly compass that tells us what direction to go--before, during, and after the holidays! And the direction? It's UP the DOWN escalator!! Open God's Word and start reading! Start looking up, start riding--OR walking up--walking won't hurt that way-out waistline either--in the direction of your help, for "your help cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth!"
Our Heavenly Father understands the up-and-down emotional experiences of His kids, and while He wants us to grow up and not rely on feelings, He's not going to beat us over the head when we're down! He WILL be there to remind us to turn around and head in the RIGHT direction--UP the DOWN escalator! He's our heavenly parent and unlike a department store, it's OK here, honest!! Now believe it--start in the right direction, begin praising the Lord, and watch what happens!
