Christmas may be a BOARDING affair for the family this year - and no, that's not a typo that was meant to be "BORING!" Board games are back in style, so I hear--well, what I hear is that the 50+ crowd is going back to the classic games they used to play years ago - and now they're introducing to grandkids their own old favorites--Scrabble, Monopoly, Candyland, Go to the Head of the Class, checkers, etc, etc. So if you see Grandma and Grandpa in the Toys 'r Us game section, just know that they've gone back to their second childhood--and the chuckles on YOU--cause they're havin' fun!
Speaking of games, I've got an idea for an OLD parlor game that will keep the whole family in stitches--and it won't cost you a penny. Ever play the "Whispers" game? One person comes up with an outrageous complicated story and whispers it ONCE to the person beside him, who whispers it to the next, and on and on. The last person who's caught the whisper relates it aloud to everyone, then compares it to the real story at the head of the chain - it can get pretty funny, especially if you have a LOT of "funny relatives" (OK, we all have them--we may BE one of them!) who are easily mixed up! Try it sometime over the holidays for a hilarious after-dinner activity!
BUT while you're planning your fun, remember that someone else is planning HIS....You see, there's an ole slewfoot around who'll crash your party and play the whispers game with YOU...He will taunt you, scold you, frighten you, make you mad, sad, or bad--with thoughts he whispers from the pit of hell. Learn to recognize that sly, vicious whisper...and refuse to let his evil thoughts and words take hold of your heart. He plays to win--so watch out.....and give it back to him - not in a whisper, but in the Word of God - proclaimed loud and strong. THAT'S how YOU win the game!
And when the game's over, got an idea for you - find a solitary place to get alone--just you and the Lord--and let HIM whisper to you. His whispers, unlike your foe, are words of love, comfort, peace....you can "be still and know that HE is God" as you allow him to gently speak deep within your heart and soul. HIS whispers are "wonderful words of life" - now believe it, LISTEN UP - not DOWN - and you will have a great day!!
P.S. If the board game bug bites you, why not run out to the crowded Christmas mall now and pick up YOUR favorite old board game for YOUR favorite young 'un, show them what old-fashioned fun is all about....and then you can blame it on me!!
